Bulk Aggregates Guide

Aggregates are sold in cubic yards.  To calculate cubic yardage, you multiply length by width by depth (all measurements in ft), then divide by 27. For example, if your space was 10 feet by 10 feet by 3 inches, you would multiply 10 by 10 by 0.25 (3 inches equals 0.25 feet), giving you 25, and then divide by 27, meaning you would need just under a cubic yard to fill the 10 foot by 10 foot by 3 inch space. (25/27 = 0.92 yards). See below 1, 2, and 3 cubic yards pictured to see what a pile might look like.

In terms of weight, one yard of dense aggregate generally weighs about 1.3 tons (around 2500 pounds).
