Shrubs

Shrubs have persistent woody stems above ground and can provide a blend of green and flowering hedges, wandering or straight paths and limitless shades of color.

Shrubs come in many sizes, shapes and colors and like most perennials, shrubs that flower only bloom for a short window of time.  Shrubs are available in our yard starting early in April like your PJM and Forsythia, and carrying on right through fall with your late bloomers such as the many varities of Hydrangea paniculata.  We carry all the hardy shrubs including roses that thrive in our local climate.  Most are available in 3 to 5 gallon containers, while some are up to 10 gallon size.  We can help you to choose a woody shrub that will work in your landscape conditions.

Evergreens
Evergreens

Shrubs that are “evergreens”  maintain their leaves and color all year round.  Some evergreens are not actually green, and may be blue or yellow.  They do not change color with the seasons.  Evergreens do lose there leaves, but do so at a much slower rate and not necessarily in response to s season change.  Evergreens are an important part of your landscape, particularly in New England, because during the winter they provide color to your landscape when the leaves have fallen off everything else that is not evergreen.

Deciduous Shrubs

Deciduous shrubs are those which drop their leaves in winter time leaving just the branches.  Many variety of deciduous shrubs are flowering.  Shrubs that flower typically do so for a relatively short window of time, possibly 1 to 4 weeks. Then they drop the flowers, and new foliage growth grows on shrub.

Grasses
Grasses

Grasses are an alternative to shrubs.  Grasses grow to all different heights, dwarf at 18″ up to 9′ tall.  They are noticeable by their tall slender blades of green, tan, maroon, blue and variegated.  Most grasses are hardy through all types of weather and perform best when cut down after each season.
