Francisco’s Hilltop Gardens was established in 1938 at our current location on Putnam Pike (Route 44 West) in Smithfield, Rhode Island. John and Grace Francisco began selling vegetables on the side of Putnam Pike during the Great Depression using the name Hill Top Stand. Some of the vegetables were grown at the business and some were farmed on land that John rented just down the road at Sebille’s Farm. Vegetables were also purchased from other local growers and resold at our business. June Francisco (pictured) took the reigns in the mid 1960’s and ran the business for over 50 years until it was transitioned to John Francisco (pictured). Over the years the business did many different things including food sales and pony rides. Ultimately, it always circled back to selling flowers, vegetables and shrubs. Currently it provides a full range of landscape and hardscape material and accessory items like furniture and outbuildings, or as we like to say – “Everything for your backyard paradise”.
